KEVIN ROBERTS, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATION SERVICES

Kevin Roberts is an experienced marketing communications professional who has worked in the UK and international sports sector since the early 1990s.

His early training in journalism was followed by more than a decade in PR and communications working in sectors including hotels, leisure and local government. He built on that experience when joining the CPMA group as Deputy Director for Communications in 1990, where he handled the company’s communications for properties including Rugby World Cup and the World Student Games.

Subsequent clients include the Football Association for international media communications around Euro 96.

Roberts was hired to deliver the editorial component of SportBusiness International on its launch in 1995/6 and today retains SportBusiness Group as a key client. His role as Editorial Director delivers unique access to the global sports community and he has built a deep understanding and appreciation of the communications issues faced by stakeholders in sports.

His work for SportBusiness is combined with projects for a range of clients including Federations, agencies and companies operating in sectors such as sports recruitment, event management, security, law and hospitality.

Among his current projects for SportBusiness is Qatar Sport, a quarterly magazine in English and Arabic which sets out and promotes the often complex sports-focused economic and social policies of the State of Qatar.

His understanding of the international sports marketing and media has been recognised by invitations to chair conferences or host panels at events worldwide. Among these are Soccerex, the Marketing and Marketing Week Sports Marketing Conferences, the FT Sports Conference, Australia Leaders in Sport and a variety of conferences which he has conceived and executed on behalf of SportBusiness Group.

Roberts approach to communication is straightforward. He believes the key skill is the ability to fully recognise, understand and appreciate a client’s objectives and to develop the communications strategies required to "Deliver the messages that matter to the people who count" drawing on the most appropriate and effective techniques to achieve and exceed the desired results.
